Wuz gud... ya boi Versitile "The Truth" back in da Traphouse... Well, I just did a show last night @ 7 Stages Theatre for the stageplay "Cry, Atlanta". Wish u coulda been there cuz I MURDERED THAT SHIT!!! I know most of y'all know me as a hip hop/rap artist, but for this show, I did a spoken word piece. (Yup, ya boi don't even need a beat... just gimme a crowd and a spotlight, ya digg!!!) After the show, people kept asking me how could they get a copy of the piece I performed, so I figured the best way to get it to anyone who wants it would be to post it on my blog. So, in case you missed it, here it goes...
(NOTE: I performed this piece right after a scene in the play where one of the main characters finally revealed his feelings to a girl he had been in love with since they were in middle school. The tie-in is the word "transitory", which the character used several times in the scene while professing his love. Transitory is defined as brief or easily changeable.)
I've been playin these games for too long...
I mean, I'm really only playin with my own emotions.
I keep messin with these different girls, I know they bogus.
And all the while my soul is hopin, that one may save me from this lonely ocean that I've slowly noticed that I'm drownin in...
And my heart needs a lifeguard,
My chest needs a life vest,
No... that's an understatement. My soul needs resuscitation...
Y'all don't understand. I've tried, I KNOW I've tried.
I dated Mona for a time, that was only for your eyes.
Dated Kathy for a while because I had to see you smile.
Dated Missy, didn't care, that was simply for your hair.
Tonya only worked my nerves, but that was only for your curves.
And Brittney... irrelevant... simply your intelligence.
But I'm tired of only getting you in all these little pieces
But I'm the one to blame, I kept all of this a secret
And honestly, I don't know how much longer I can keep it...
That's why I'm callin this my thesis,
With your kiss as the title.
I've been in denial, but I put this on the bible,
My feelings are NOT transitory.
And every time you stand before me,
I just wanna grab your hand so slowly and tell you damn, I only wanna be with you...
Even when we first met, when we clicked I felt it instantly
And ever since then, I've been livin in it mentally
Itchin for it physically...
But all I really have to hold is instances and imagery...
Is it even real, or just a figment of my memory???
No... I know it's real. I KNOW it's real!
You're the only point I have, even when I'm off the subject.
You're all that's on my mind, when I'm contemplating nothing.
The only fire I can find when the temperature is freezing.
You're the answer to my "whys" when I don't even have a reason...

So once again, I say transitory... no.
What I feel is undeniable.
I'm tired of looking for something viable, always finding unreliable.
Tired of lookin for commitment, just to end up discontented.
Tired of looking for my queen... just to only find a dream...
So I hope that you can see,
that this is NOT changeable, NOT debatable, and I'm not waiting for you
ANYMORE!!!
So forget these transitory girls and their transitory ways,
This transitory world and it's transitory days,
Your transitory moods with these transitory guys,
These transitory rules in these transitory times...

"Anything can change everything" - Versitile.
Living by this quote, Versitile "The Truth" has exploded onto today's music scene with intentions to do just that - CHANGE EVERYTHING. "Change is definitely needed to improve the situation that Hip Hop is in. . . not that Hip Hop is dead, it's just been drawing a lot of criticism for the lack of creativity and originality." Being that creative and original are the two words Versitile uses to describe his music, his main focus is in maintaining authenticity and relevance in his music. "The artists who stay true to themselves and relevant and true to their fans are the ones who last the longest. I'm gonna be one of those people."
William "Versitile" Tibbs, III was born Nov 17, 1986 and raised in Atlanta, GA. Versitile attributes much of his musical aspirations to him being from the South. "I developed a love for music before I can even remember. . . once I started jumpin off that porch and really got a chance to see the influence that music has on my city, I knew I had to become a part of it." Versitile initially aspired to sing, until around age 12 when he decided that rapping would better suit his musical creativity. Shortly thereafter, William was dubbed "Versitile" by his friends. "In my early days of rapping, I really didn't have a style of my own. I was influenced by all the rap I was hearing so every time I rapped, my flow was totally different. One of my homeboys' called my s*** versitile so I liked it and the name stuck." Over the next few years, he worked on crafting and perfecting his "Versitile" flow, incorporating what he calls "the best elements of all Hip Hop". At first listen, he may sound like a Southerner with an East Coast flow (or from the East Coast with a southern flow depending on who you ask), but after a more thorough listening, his hometown is evident (if not blatantly obvious) and his many influences are represented vicariously through his music.
Versitile's music yields a superb combination of crafty hooks, vivid storytelling, intricate rhyming, and an exceptional use of metaphors. He hopes to give his listeners, "a reason to keep buying rap albums". "Fiction is great for entertainment purposes, but people reality is what connects people." And for anyone who hears the music, the connection is undeniable. "I talk about it all, the struggle, hustlin, the good and the bad , relationships, the hood, tribulations, triumphs... I make it so anyone can identify with something real in my music."
